In this immersive five-hour workshop, you’ll forge a full-sized chef’s knife from premium reclaimed Italian or German rasp steel. Chosen for its exceptional toughness and edge retention, this high-quality tool steel is given new life through traditional blacksmithing techniques to create a kitchen knife built to last for generations.

Unlike our other knife workshops, the Japanese-style wa handle is prepared in advance, allowing the entire experience to focus on forging, shaping, and refining the largest and most precision-focused knife we offer. You’ll choose from a selection of wa handle styles to complement your finished blade.

With one-on-one instruction throughout the experience, you’ll learn how to draw out steel, forge the blade profile, establish clean bevels, and refine the details that make a great chef’s knife.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have forged, shaped, and refined your chef’s knife. Following the class, we’ll complete the final tempering cycle in our professional kiln, permanently install your pre-fit wa handle, and sharpen your knife before it’s ready for pickup or shipping.

No previous blacksmithing experience is required. Whether you’re passionate about cooking or simply appreciate traditional craftsmanship, you’ll leave with a full-sized chef’s knife that’s as functional as it is beautiful.
